Kansas has a great waterfowl hunting season..................
Many different types of waterfowl pass through our area
each year. It is not unusual to walk out of the house on a fall
or winter morning and hear geese honking or the whistling
wings of ducks overhead. Come hunt with us, and watch as
hundreds of ducks at a time circle and land on our irrigation
ponds.

Kansas, believe it or not, is an excellent place to hunt
waterfowl. Located in the Central flyway, we have bountiful
migrants pass through each year. As the development of
the Milford Wetlands continues and with Milford Lake
nearby, many more waterfowl are now attracted to the area.
When these wetlands freeze over, the irrigation ponds that
our found on our hunting land will remain open. The majority
of ducks you will hunt and see at the ponds are puddle
ducks, most being mallards, but there are also pintails,
widgeons, gadwall, and teal. There are also diving ducks
that use the ponds which include redheads, goldeneye,
buffleheads, and ruddys. Canadian Geese are another
frequent user of the ponds, not to mention that thousands of
Snow Geese have covered these ponds in the past. We also
have big agricultural fields in the river bottom that the
waterfowl feed in if you would rather do a field set up.

Many of the waterfowl will fly the Republican River up to
feed in these agricultural fields. These waterfowl are then
attracted to the irrigation ponds that are located beside the
river. These ponds can be a waterfowl paradise.
